“The things that hold so many people back are just excuses.” Coach Mackey
Coach,
In Year 1 of The Texas Way, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) saw ejections decrease significantly for schools that participated in the program.
Thanks in large part to coaches like you, who are supporting and playing The Texas Way, we’re on track to see even greater progress in Year 2.
To help everyone stay on track, we’ve got one reminder and two announcements.
Reminder: September Resources
Each month you will receive a Monthly Resource Drop with a specific emphasis. For September, that emphasis is: NO EXCUSES.
We play The Texas Way with No Excuses. That means owning our actions, respecting the game, and refusing to shift blame when challenges come.
Excuses are easy, but they hold us back. Ownership is hard, but it propels us forward.
Remember to watch the 4-minute video on the Texas Way Coach’s curriculum page, and check out the other free resources. For example, there’s a No Excuses poster that can be printed and hung in the locker room for players and coaches to sign.
RefReps Partnership
We’re excited to announce that RefReps is the newest partner of The Texas Way!
RefReps is the official and exclusive officiating education technology and curriculum partner of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
Over the next few weeks, we will be adding videos to the Texas Way dashboard in collaboration with RefReps for a new series: Making the Call.
These videos will ask you to place yourself in the shoes of the official responsible for making the call as you review game clips. Through this series, you’ll be able to see the game through the eyes of the officials across multiple sports.
Check out this ready to use example:
Texas Way T-Shirts
From the Texas Way Coach’s curriculum page, you can access Assets & Resources, which includes a link to free T-Shirt Artwork. The Dropbox folder has a few different designs that can be screen-printed or embroidered on clothes through your preferred print shop.
If you want shirts without the extra steps, you can purchase The Texas Way T-shirts in 12 colors from the 2Words Merch Shop through BSN Sports.
Final Thoughts
Through The Texas Way, we’ve made great progress in reducing player, coach, and spectator ejections in high school sports. As promising as this is, we can’t stop here. There’s more progress to be made.
Thank you for being a part of this. Thank you for your work. If I can help you or your district in any way, or you want to tell your story, email me at Mackey@2words.tv.
